…and NOT pregnant!
One month ago I received an email, Pink Ribbon asked me to change my Facebook status in “12 weeks and craving for tomatoes” according to my date of birth. After the succesful bra colour- status, the craving was also initiated to raise awareness for breastcancer in October, traditionally Pink Ribbon month. More than willing to show my support, I changed my status.
That little sentence has magical powers, apparently people are referring to those words as “being pregnant” with the acompanying congrats that go with it. I was a little shocked, why is everybody falling for that self-fulfilling prophecy?
People read what they wanna read.
After that, I noticed the most stupid reactions, online and in real life, people who were offended because they were trying to have a baby, people who were offended because their mom died of cancer. One woman was too afraid for the reactions if she would change her status. Instead of changing her status, somebody else put that stupid ribbon logo on her Facebook wall, like she wanted to say “I don’t support this action and the women who did join”!
In my opinion, people with such reactions are too afraid to face reality; one in eight women get breastcancer, and you could be one of them!
People believe what they wanna believe.
Another example, just after I joined the social network of friends, I changed my relationship status to “married to”, after 21 years together I thought it would just be a reasonable thing to do. It’s not my fucking fault that Facebook is based on pre-historic beliefs that people can’t have a “happily unmarried”-status. So same thing happened, people were assuming we secretly got married during our New York adventure.
People think what they wanna think.
Pink Ribbon month, this years’ slogan is “the best protection is early detection” So, is this woman squeezing a pimple or checking her breasts?
People see what they wanna see…
